A legend retires

Legendary Teton climber and climbing ranger Renny Jackson is headed for mandatory retirement. I came across a great article about him in the Jackson Hole News and Guide you can check out here
Renny was a Park West ski patroller in the early 80′s and one of my favorite runs on Murdock still bears his name on our trail map. I’ve quizzed him a few times about the story- you rarely get an avalanche path named in your honor without having gone for a ride or being injured/killed there – and i’ve yet to pull any details out of him. But I have no doubt it was an exciting time in the ski business and the story is probably worth hearing someday.
Renny also wrote the quintessential guide book for the Tetons with Leigh Ortenburger, grab it at REI here. If you ever get the chance to have a beer or bs with the man, I recommend it, every time i’ve had the chance its been a fun night.
Anyway, just wanted to give him some thanks for a life dedicated to helping the rest of us survive in the mountains.

Appreciate the piece and the link to the JH article. Enjoyed a hot drink at the Ranger hut compliments of Renny in ’99 after climbing the OS. One instantly knew that they were in the presence of greatness. Recently read that Renny credited Tom Kimbrough as his climbing mentor. A pair of true icons in our backyard!
