Avalanche viewing

January 25, 2010

What a week!!  60″ of snow out of this storm onto a weak and fragile snowpack.  The avalanches have been far trickier than I anticipated and there have been way too many close calls and one fatality in Utah since it all began last week.  I got the chance to do some fly overs with the Wasatch Powderbird Guides this afternoon and the site seeing was impressive.  The avalanches out there are big, running far and lethal.  Even more impressive were the number of big slopes still intact out there and the number of people taking chances on big lines in bad terrain – it’s just powder skiing!!!!  Chill out and let the snow adjust please!  Remember, for all the times you get away with it, it only takes one mistake to ruin your life!

I am still messing around with my video editing, thinking that I will have to bite the bullet and buy some software, I’m just not finding what I want in the free world, but the videos are coming I promise. I have gotten some good skiing and avalanche control footage in the last three days.  Just need to sit down on my days off and put it all together for your viewing pleasure.
