Back in Girdwood sorting gear and checking my list twice getting ready to head for Talkeetna and beyond to the Alaska Range…Finally some big mountains haha! Last few days mostly spent in and around Seward at the Shady Lane cabin – a wonderful place if you have the right connections – a little exploring around the area but mostly being lazy and just hanging out. We got the behind the scenes tour at the Alaska Sea Life Center from my Aunt and Uncle which was very cool to see how the place runs and how they train the sea lions. Spent way too much time watching Woody, the 900 kg male sea lion, gracefully maneuver around his pool showing off for the ladies as mating season approaches… A short hike out to Tonsina Point in the rain after a failed attempt to get to the Exit Glacier – despite the NPS web info, the road is actually closed – very cool to walk around the beach out there at low tide. More Eagle encounters out there as well! Read the remainder of this entry »
Rested up and ready to go…

Well like all things Alaska, my trip so far has been big and event filled, thankfully all has been on the positive side! Flew into Anchorage last week without a solid plan, just a few little things on my to do list and a May 1 date with the Alaska Range and a (weather permitting) attempt to climb/ski the Ramen Route on Mt Hunter.
After reuniting with my long, lost AK family (some of you I see more than others… hint… hint…) we made contact with Friends in Valdez and made a game time decision to rally their direction before heli season ended and the weather closed back in. We planned on staying a night or two and ended staying for four.
Will be sure to post details soon, been skiing here the last two days, amazing mountains, amazing friends and good times all around. Will be here until Saturday give or take (storm coming!!!) then to Girdwood and Seward. AK Range on May 1! Stay tuned for the full Valdez story in the coming days. Check out my Alaska set on Flickr for more pics, but here’s a teaser!
So I did it… Hung up the cross and started out on a new adventure and new path. For the next month I’ll be playing and exploring in Alaska. Started it off slowly with a quick run up Peak 3 in the Front Range of the Chugach for some epic wasted corn skiing, felt more like spring mogul skiing in the resort. Last night was an awesome dinner with the Alaska family, great to reconnect with my cousins, aunt and uncle. A quick breakfast this morning and we’re off to Valdez to hitch a ride with Don and Dylan, by all accounts the skiing down there is currently epic…Stay tuned….
